Our Program Through the Years
After many years of teaching at Friends University, instructors Bill Allan and Val Wall asked the current president if he would allow them to start a program for individuals with cognitive disabilities. He granted them permission.
Friendship Fields, a life skills program that interacts with many athletic teams and clubs on campus, started ten students attending one day a week in a room that was not theirs, as others used it during other parts of the day. Now this inaugural program is called Friendship Fields Fun, with 20 students who meet two days a week in our own suite in the Davis Administration Building.
We also have added our second program, Friendship Fields Academy, which is a more traditional college model. The students take seven classes per semester in the Friendship Fields Academy classroom. After eight semesters, the students graduate with a completion certificate. These classes are modeled after current university courses.
